SENATE HEALTHCARE BILL AND THE BIBLE
I TIMOTHY CH. 4
If you have ever had any doubt as to what the American government is currently doing, all you need to do is take a look at Senate healthcare bill and this chapter in the Bible. We are specifically given warning with regard to marriage. The beginning of the Chapter states as follows:
Verses 1-6:
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
You do not tax people at a higher rate because they are married. This is teaching against marriage by telling people to live in sin, in the healthcare bill. If you are married, you will be taxed at a higher rate. If you live in sin and are not married, you will be rewarded.
In all the healthcare garb, we have heard about the government choosing to tell us the way we should eat in order to be able to receive care. This is wrong.
The reason our food is hurting us is because people who eat do not receive the food as though God put it on their plates and served them himself. If God did not allow you to employed where you are and your employer to pay you, you would not have that food to eat. God deserves our appreciation for everything we receive. Too many people ask the wrong things for 10 minute prayers. Prayer or requests of God to sanctify our food for our bodies and giving thanks to Him for providing it does not take 10 minutes.
As a plea to all my friends, readers, and others, now and in the future. Read your Bible for yourself and determine for yourself what is going on. Anyone can draw the lines between the Bible and what is going on within the world and in America right now. That is all I ask. Read it for yourself. Don't make a showing out of prayer. Ask God for what you need, talk to Him about your day and do it, please, within the instructions provided to you through the Bible. The Bible is our guide for life and our bodies will cease to suffer as soon as we start obeying God.
I know I mentioned prayer. I did this because it is done so wrongly and people are taught poorly from the church what is expected when they pray and how Jesus Christ himself said we should pray.
MATTHEW CHAPTER 6
Sets out our guidline on how we should pray.
Verses 1-15 (becasue there are many verses here, they all will not be repeated here word for word)
1 take heed and do not your alms before men, to be seen of them or you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a tumpet before, as hypocrites do in synagogues and in streets. They do this for their glory, and have their reward then.
3 when though doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right doeth:
4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the concerns of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily, I say unto you, they have their reward.
6 but when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, when thou hast shut thy door, pray to they Father which is in secret; they Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: they think they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not like unto them: your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 pray this way: Our Father which art in heave, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy Kingdon come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen
14 If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
When most pray in public, it is usually as a showing of the Christian faith and beliefs, etc. However, it is for that show and purpose. Jesus Christ tells us this is wrong. He tells us in this passage that we are wrong to pray lengthy prayers.
How will thoughts and actions on your own life be changed from placing thought on these verses? How do you see our American government right now? How do you think and feel about the Senate healthcare bill? Our first priorty is to God, our families, ourselves and others. If we are wrong in what we do, how then can we talk to others about it? We must be right and me go forward boldly.

OBAMA, WE WANT YOUR RECORDS!!!
It is time to call a duck a duck and a muslim extremist, a muslim extremist. Obama is just that. Don't believe me, don't take my word for it. Research his ties yourself. The NOI "Nation of Islam", is the largest group of muslim extremists in the United States of America. While Americans have slept, the NOI has been allowed to spread their venom throughout the American prison system. Obama can be directly linked to the leader of the NOI, who is Lewis Farakhan. Farakhan has been the leader of the NOI since the death of Malcolm X. Farakhan, during Clinton's administration, demanded 5 southern states be given to him and his group for payment of ancestors who were slaves.
I do not believe in slavery. I do not believe in treating people as some were treated during slavery. I do not condone feelings of animosity toward people because of their skin color and ethnic background. We are all human.
The NOI if continued to grow and remain unchecked will begin terrorizing people of America and have already shown their ability to do so. Obama was elected while "Black Panthers", the strong arm of the NOI, stood outside voting halls in order to persuade voters to vote for Obama. They have their own agenda. It just so happens that their agenda and the agenda of Obama are the same.
Obama is not elligible to be the president. Yet, rather than demand his documents be released, we spend our time calling Senators and Congressmen in regard to healthcare and Cap and Trade. Have you seen their attitude toward the American people. They don't care what we want or whether we are the majority or not. THEY DON'T CARE. THEY HAVE AN AGENDA.
What I ask is this. If you are American and you stand on the principals of our founding fathers. If you are a Christian and have read your Bible and studied it and know what the future holds, please pick up a sign and protest on the steps of your capitol buildings the fact that YOU DEMAND OBAMA'S RECORDS BE RELEASED AND BE RELEASED NOW!!!!
In December, the full fledged One World Government will be put into place. WHO WILL BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD? WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER THAT? I can not exactly step by step answer these questions. Nobody knows for sure. There are a few absolutes to this though,
ABSOLUTELY, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FREEDOMS, ONE BY ONE!
ABSOLUTELY, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS!!!!
ABSOLUTELY, YOUR LIBERTIES WILL BE GONE!!
ABSOLUTELY, YOU WILL NOW BE UNDER U.N. AND ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT POWER.
ABSOLUTELY, YOU WILL SEE THINGS IN AMERICA FALL TO THE PIT OF A BOTTOMLESS HELL.
ABSOLUTELY, YOU WILL WITNESS THE GENOCIDE OF MANY. CHRISTIANS ARE ON THE AGENDA!
Our Racist Obama and his racist regime, and the racists in power in the U.N. will see to the absolute destruction of Christians and Christianity. I did not say black Christians, white, Christians, brown Christians, yellow Christians. I just said Christians. You either are a Christian or you are not. Some of us are more outspoken than others, but if you are a Christian, you and God know you are and you also have to know that they are gunning for us. It is not racism against a skin color. It is a racism against God and against Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior.
Draw the lines. Study the beliefs and thoughts of the Nation of Islam. They have even dooped middle east Islamic leaders into joining more together with them and uniting for the purpose of killing those who are infidels.
WHO ARE THE INFIDELS? We are. Christian and Jewish people world wide are who these racist, extremists are after.
WHAT CAN BE DONE?
We can come together as a people, as a family, as CHRISTIANS, and we can STAND, and we can DEMAND Obama's documents. From there, we can go forward toward kicking his sorry, racist, extremist, muslim, butt out of the White House. We have no choice any furuther. We out number them for now. If they are left unchecked, they will destroy us. Please don't sit by and let this happen. Get active and speak out NOW.

Christian World Wide Prayer Event
Christians of all denominations must realize that this is what matters. The fact that Jesus Christ gave his life and died on a cross to save all who believe in him from their sins. On these grounds we, Christians, can stand together and stand strong.
Recognizing the Bible as our guide and law for life and every aspect of life, Christians are empowered to stand their ground and speak out for God and for each other.
Prayer is our time to request from God what we need in order to repent of wrong doing and get our lives back in line with God’s will for us. Prayer is the time to make the request of God to give us help and strength when we need it and if it is His will to give it.
Jesus Christ is the backbone Christians. He is the foundation of the faith we have and he is the saving way to our Father, God. Christians must put aside petty differences and meaningless beliefs in order to be able to stand together in the tough times has world has entered.
The founding fathers of America came here to find a new world and establish a country separate from Great Britain and separate from the tyranny of being told how they could or could not worship God under control of the Roman Catholic Church. Our founding fathers wrote and signed our Constitution and Bill of Rights. They sought to be part of a Free country that was “One Nation Under God”.
Since our founding fathers. The United States has seen many presidents. Some of which have been really good for the country and others who were a threat to ending the American Freedom that our founding fathers and the people of America fought for in the Revolutionary War. Our presidents should be officials who are the people’s final stand against Congress. No kidding. The American President should be the lead in doing what the people want because our government is a government “For the People, By the People”. However, our representatives in Congress are supposed to vote based on the majority vote of the people. Our government today does not do this.
Barack Husein Obama was elected president of the United States of America in November, 2008. Many did not bother to get the information on Obama that was important in making their decision on voting. By sleeping for years on what government has done or tried to do, we now awaken to the fact that our laziness and lack of concern for our Freedom has quite possibly cost us the very thing that makes us who we are in the world.
We are all colors and from many different countries all over the world. Most of us are Christians, but others of us are of different religions. One thing the people in America are is America. We have marched on Washington D.C. We have spoken and we have been heard. Now our current government is thumbing their noses at us and acting as if they know better than we do what we want and what we need.
Has our government gone too far? If so, what is next? For those feeling desperate and unsure of the future, how do they get understanding in order to know what is coming down the road?
The American government has gone too far. This is the reason why the American people in majority are speaking out and voicing their concerns and wants to the government. Nobody can know for sure exactly what is next except to say that the Bible tells us what we need to know. We have to study the Word of God in the Bible and get prepared. Many people are getting prepared physically for the things that are coming but many are not prepared spiritually. We must review our faith in God and ask ourselves if we are ready to make the necessary stand for God and ourselves.
In order to live, we have to prepare. I do not necessarily mean live physically in the body and life you have right now. You see, if you are a Christian, you know that in order to be reconciled to God, because of your sins, Jesus Christ had to die. In doing so, he himself is the only way to get salvation and have a relationship with God. We will all die one day. Nobody knows how they will die. A simple way of explaining eternal life follows:
If we all have a soul, then we will all live eternally. Life will go on after death. How and where? Well, if you are a Christian, life goes on in two ways. Those who are saved and are Christians will live an eternal life with God and everything will be perfect. If you are not a Christian, the Christian belief is that you will go to hell, a lake of fire. But you continue to live an eternal life of agony and pain that never ends. You experience a kind of eternal death, as I have come to refer to it, just do not ever actually die or get relief.
Keeping the above in mind, do you want to live an eternal, perfect life with God, or would you rather chance an eternal experience of agony and pain? Things are progressing quickly into the days and years discussed and warned in the Book of Revelation in the Bible. Christians need to study the Bible. Those who are not Christians would not be harmed by studying the Bible and by talking to someone who may be able to help explain things to them if they have questions.
America has come away from God and must return to God. Christians all over the world must, at least in spirit, stand together and pray in unity. We are God’s family. We have the power unlike that of any other group on earth and at God’s will would defeat any army that came against us. However, we have to be prepared and we have to be awake to the things God wants from us. Some Christians have been weakened in thinking being a Christian means to be passive and allow whatever happens to happen. Some believe the rapture will keep them from any of the tribulation period spoken of and taught in the Bible. Many will lose their faith when the pre-tribulation rapture does not occur. I would be happy if the pre-tribulation rapture did occur. However, I do not believe a pre-tribulation rapture will happen.
All I ask is that you look at you and at your family and talk about your lives and your faith in God. Start praying together and preparing yourself and each other for what is to come. Help others if they need it in preparing and in standing up. We must have our eyes open and we must be ready to stand no matter what. It is important to be ready and able to stand. When we stand in these days, it is not just America or freedom we stand for, but for God and for each other, Christians, around the world.
Prayer around the world with Christians in unity praying for the same things is needed. God will hear and God will respond in His time and in accordance to His will. We need God. We need time. We need strength. We need direction and guidance. We need a re-newing of our faith in God.

Some Christians have been weakened in thinking being a Christian means to be passive and allow whatever happens to happen. Some believe the rapture will keep them from any of the tribulation period spoken of and taught in the Bible. Many will lose their faith when the pre-tribulation rapture does not occur. I would be happy if the pre-tribulation rapture did occur. However, I do not believe a pre-tribulation rapture will happen.
All I ask is that you look at you and at your family and talk about your lives and your faith in God. Start praying together and preparing yourself and each other for what is to come. Help others if they need it in preparing and in standing up. We must have our eyes open and we must be ready to stand no matter what. It is important to be ready and able to stand. When we stand in these days, it is not just America or freedom we stand for, but for God and for each other, Christians, around the world.
Prayer around the world with Christians in unity praying for the same things is needed. God will hear and God will respond in His time and in accordance to His will. We need God. We need time. We need strength. We need direction and guidance. We need a re-newing of our faith in God.

CHRISTIANS WORLD WIDE MUST PRAY TOGETHER!!!
Time is short. Christians must act NOW and must act FAST. We must have prayer in a 48 hour window where Christians can pray and go to their churches and meeting places and pray in regard to following:
1. Asking God to give us more time.
2. Asking for strength.
3. Renewal of committment to God and to Jesus Christ.
4. Renwal of service to both God and to Jesus Christ.
The greatest power in the world is in Christians. God loves us and listens and answers our prayers. I fully believe with all the pointers in revelation toward time frame, that a time can not be completely figured is because the power is in Christians world wide to determine somewhat. I believe if we, Christians, request more time, God will give it to us and it will at least stop what is currently coming very fast. I believe Christians are the only people on earth whcih can delay what is pre-written in Revelation. Where we may only be able to delay things for a while, the Christian community as a whole needs some extra time to re-commit and renew their faith.
We need a time of renewal of strength from God. Look around you. Do you believe the Christians you see around you would stand for God against anything? No matter the means, no matter the cost. Will Christians stand? Will Christians stand together? Will those who are in the worst countries be willing to stand even to the point of facing certain death? Is your own faith strong enough to stand against anything for God?
These are tough questions to answer not faced with those types of situations currently. However, if you have read and studied your Bible, then you know these things are coming. Even if you believe in the rapture, and many Christians do, you do not know for sure when the rapture will occur or what will take place prior to the rapture. What will you be willing to endur for Christ?
NOVEMBER 13 AND 14, 2009 I would like all Christians to pray. Some will be working, some will be home, but I ask that everybody pass around this date, talk to your churches and prayer groups, it is not meant to be where you are expected to be in prayer for a full 48 hours, but for churches, groups and individuals to have a 48 hour window, in which to come together, to pray not for America alone, but for the world and for the governments, and for the people, so that we may have renewed faith, new dedication to God, and an extension of time in things that are coming whether it will be us facing it or others. Whether the rapture occurs prior or not. People still need more time to prepare for what is ahead.

Jesus Christ, God and Today
In the world today, politicians are crooked. Obama is so arrogant nobody could possibly know what's best for themselves without consulting him or other liberals that no better.
There is still one vital message that must be shared. That message is the message of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. You see, the most vital part of our beliefs in what we are fighting for is our belief in Jesus Christ. What ties most of those of us who are conservative in thinking is our freedom given to us by God through the death of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is God, born as man, who lived on earth as man and was then murdered on the cross by people who refused to believe he was the son of God. In the days of Jesus Christ, all kinds of miracles were performed and people believed in him so greatly that they did not care what others said or thought about them. They believed because what others said or thought did not matter in comparison to the everlasting life they would receive for believing and following Jesus Christ.
Many people have tried to knock the Christian faith and tear down our beliefs and chip away at our unity as brothers and sisters in the family of our Father, God. Those people thought they had come to a point in America where they could do whatever they wanted and get away with it because they thought the American people were tied up in differences and money that they would not ever be able to stand together. They were wrong.
People in America (Americans) are standing together and uniting like never before and those of us who are standing together, stand for FREEDOM, FAMILY, GOD AND COUNTRY! Not necessarily in that order. People think miracles do not happen now, today. However, I am a firm believer in miracles and believe people just need to have their eyes open in order to see what God is doing in our time, in our world, today. All over the world their are people standing up to their government. In America, our government is not meeting us to kill us in the streets, yet. If we do not continue to stand firm and strong, rely on God's help and strength, and pray, that day may come for America too.
America has been blessed by God. Without God, our country is divided, very much like it has become today. However, many people are awake in America like never before, since the time of the American Revolution. We are fighting back against the government and we are winning. We must continue to fight. There are many ways to fight and we are right now fighting the government by standing up, standing together, and speaking out. Whether or not it appears so, we are being heard. At rallies all over this country, people in America are being heard. The government wants to try to blow us off and ignore us, but obviously they are listening to some degree because Obama and his liberal cronies have been unable to get the things accomplished they wanted to get accomplished.
My message to people in America is STAND AND SPEAK!!!! DO NOT BE QUIET OR SILENCED. Stand up for those around you who are of like mind. STAND FOR GOD.
Individuality scares our government, because it was given to us by God. As Christians, we must stand, speak, be heard, and hold others accountable for what they do. This does not mean we have to start killing people like the government wants to think by saying we are terrorists or involved in terrorist type activities. They are the terrorists at this point and if WE THE PEOPLE do not hold them in check, they will walk all over us. We have God given freedom that we will stand up for and that we are standing up for and we will continue to stand.
JESUS CHRIST IS MY LORD AND SAVIOR AND I STAND BECAUSE I AM FREE AND GOD GAVE ME THAT FREEDOM. MY EYES ARE OPEN AND SO ARE MY EARS BECAUSE GOD IS SPEAKING TO THE CHRISTIANS IN AMERICA AND AROUND THE WORLD AND WE HAVE TO LISTEN.

AN EASY FIX
You know, it would not take rocket science to get the deficit of America down. It would not be that hard. What could we do now that would fix things or at least get things going in a positive direction?
STOP fraudulent claims filed by doctors and hospitals being filed on government healthcare now, like Medicare and Medicaid. It has proven and reported time and again that doctors and hospitals have been filing claims under Medicare and Medicaid for empty hospital beds and rooms and even for procedures that have never been performed on patients in order for the doctors and hospitals and get more money. This is rediculous. Obama and others within government talking about the billions in healthcare the government spends each year could be knocked down if fraudulent claims were stopped. They can stop it.
STOP allowing illegals into this country. If you did not come here legally, get out. Otherwise, you stay and pay a higher tax for not going through the proper channels to be here legally.
This alone would cut down on costs and could help with funds being freed up in order to apply to the deficit.
Obama and the liberals would like Americans to think that there is no way out except for their way. That is simply not true.
THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN:
The war in Afghanistan is extremely important. None of us want to be at war. None of us want our soldiers dying. Each soldier is a husband, wife, child and grandchild of someone here. Of course, their lives matter and it is our duty to do what we can, while they are fighting, that would ensure us getting them home safely and quickly. The only way to do this is to send them the troops necessary to take Afghanistan, win, and get home.
The soldiers know what they signed up for before they went overseas. However, they still need our support. They need to know we believe in what they are doing for us. We have to support our military. They are doing their jobs to protect us and keep us safe. Without winning Afghanistan, our country will see more terror attacks in the future.
The president must get off his butt and make the decision to send the troops requested to win Afghanistan, and get the job done.

IN A HURRY TO DESTRY AMERICA!!!!
Liberals are in a hurry to destroy America and everything that our great country and the vast number of people here who are from all different ethnic backgrounds. Our racist government strives to bring down the American people by calling all who oppose Obama, racist. Our government seems a bit racist to me.
They seem racist against American people and racist against Christians. They don't descriminate by color though. If you are an American or Christian, your skin color does not matter. They hate you!
We have a FREE country. We have pride in the fact that so many different races can come together to work, eat, share thoughts, and worship God.
We have those in this country who are not Christians. I disagree with their religious beliefs, but I don't seek them out to bring harm to them or their family. However, they accept the fact that they disagree with my religious beliefs and we can still get along and work together and agree to disagree. We are all free and in this country we are all Americans. Who we were prior to American no longer matters. We are Americans now.
As Americans, Chrstian and otherwise, we are being attacked by our government and liberal media. Our government hates us for being free and have others in secret organization together telling them what to do in order to bring about a readiness to bring in the one world government. There can not be a true one world government so long as America is FREE and Americans have the right to bear arms.
AMERICANS MUST STAND, FOR FREEDOM, FOR FAMILY, FOR THE RIGHT TO EXIST. ISRAEL IS NOT THE ONLY MASSIVELY HATED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. AMERICA IS HATED JUST AS MUCH.
Russia, China, Iran, and all the others who hate us are having a GREAT field day with Obama and God hating liberals in the government. Obama is weakening our defenses and leaving us open for attack. Bush may not have been the greatest person or president in the world but our country was safe for 8 years. Now Obama is weakening us and setting us up to be attacked and more of our innocents to be slaughtered. What better way to knock down some population than to allow thousands to be killed by terrorists or even an invasion.
AMERICA has never been invaded with the exception of the revolutionary war, no other country has ever attacked us on our own soil. Obama and the liberals want us to be attacked. Obama would have an actual reason to declare Martial law and take over everything.
OBAMA is a traitor to America and the American people.
OBAMA wants genecide in this country.
OBAMA hates freedom and liberty.
OBAMA HAS TO GO!
Please stand America. Our very lives depend on it. As long as there is racial equality among the people, by the people, the government nor the media have the ability to change it no matter what they say. A PAUSE FOR 09/11/01 AND THE FREE AMERICA THAT WAS HIT BY COWARDS.
A short pause in the political mess this morning to say prayer for those affected by SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. Who was affected? Every American in our country and overseas. We were all affected. My heart and prayers still go out to those who lost their lives and the families that carry on now they are gone and have been for 8 years now. My heart and prayers go out to the soldiers overseas or even still here at home who are training and waiting on their turn to go overseas to fight against terrorists who want to strike again.
My favorite Presidential speech in a movie was the one from INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!
We are a very strong nation and we came together when terror hit the Twin Towers.
Again, we are coming together now, not because we all agree over the same things, but because we all see our government acting in a way that will restrict freedom in our own country. As Americans it is our duty to ourselves and each other, to continue to stand for what we strongly believe in as a country united in protecting our freedom, liberty, and the Constitution of the United States of America.

HEALTHCARE/CONGRESS AND 1 REPUBLICAN
Though I would agree that perhaps timing was not on his side, I commend Rep. from South Carolina, Joe Wilson's courage to make a stand at the time he saw fit to make the impact needed to keep American people on their toes.
Last night, after working at my second job, I saw the Obama speech to Congress. I pointed out on two different occasions that this "Republican" looked like he would burst out any moment. At that point I did not even know who he was. I was right. On the television all I heard was "lie" or "liar". It was either because I was half asleep because it was late, or because there was a lot of noise in the background group in Congress and I could not clearly hear what was said exactly.
If Obama can not be repremanded for being a treasonous, sell out, of a president for our GREAT country, then I do not believe Obama should be able to wage war against Republican for loving his country and fellow Americans enough to call a duck a duck, no matter where he is.
JOE WILSON, REPUBLICAN FROM SOUTH CAROLINA:
My hat is off to you this morning. After seeing an article naming you and showing what you said. The biggest problem with Obama at this point is that the American people know he is a liar and do not trust him. We do not trust anything he says and likely never will. Trust is earned. Out of respect for our president, many of us have been quiet in the past and feel horrible now for doing so. Things have been done both by Dems and Reps to hurt our country. We are on a moral mission at this point to stop government from taking God given freedoms and rights away from us further. We will not lie down and go back to sleep as Obama and his regime would have us do.
What you, Joe Wilson, did last night, I would have done had I been in that room. I was saying it out loud at my television, just as many were, when you spoke up on the floor and said it on National television during his speech. Timing was not on your side, but you have made a friend here.
I do not know all there is to know about Rep. Joe Wilson. I intend to find out more as I will attempt to help him through this time coming where Dems will try to ruin him politically. I ask any and all who are reading this now, find out all you can about Joe Wilson and if issues represent in any means what you believe and feel, please stand by him in this upcoming trying time. Do not allow Dems to take him out without a fight. I will be looking into Joe Wilson and hopefully be able to speak with him directly at some point. Everything I read and find out I will post here and you can read it for yourself.

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun.
This bill was introduced on Feb.. 24. This bill will become public knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all.

AMERICAN CHURCHES GONE WEAK!!!!!
Dear Readers:
Even though this movement was not meant to take sides in order not to offend, somebody has to make a stand for morals and for Christianity. The churches are absolutely to weak in the knees to do it. So, I will.
FAM is going Christian. Forget offending or not offending. God is God and the Bible is His word. As Christians, we must stand up for God and stand up for each other. I have a task to challenge you. If you have doubt about your church, try this:
Go directly to your pastor/preacher and talk to him. Ask him where he stands on what is going on in America. Ask him if he and the church are willing to publically take a stand with the American citizens on issues of government taking freedoms and liberties, and other issues. Listen carefully to what he says and then ask him why he is not, if he is not and the church is not.
Weigh heavily the meeting or conversation. You can do this in person, through email, and even by telephone. Pray about the meeting and what was said. Make the determination of whether you really want to attend church in a place that is not willing to support you, your freedoms and liberties, and others in America who are Christians and who are speaking out to keep government control from taking place.
I am willing to start a web ministry. I had one before and I currently write for a ministry website. It will not be necessary to pay any monies for the ministry except if you would like to make a love offering or tithe through the ministry to help either with the website or in order to make donations to different Christian organizations that are truly making a differnece in the world for God.
One such ministry is the Cornerstone Brotherhood Ministry http://www.tcsb.org
This is the ministry I write for and have been with for the past 4 to 5 years. I know the Pastor of this ministry and know first hand the things that are being done for God through that ministry. I will be happy to take other ministries into consideration. I am working on putting together a ministry now and would love to be able to share God with everybody interested in going to the ministry website. You will be able to take an active role in this ministry. I will need several people who are willing to donate their time to write for the ministry and to spread the website around and the idea of the ministry.
My mission for the ministry will be for it to be what Church is supposed to be. We have come away from the church being the people. Church has become a building that people need to pay money into to be doing something for God. Churches are corrupt and all about the money. As the leading person in the ministry, I will not need money to do my job. I do it because I love God and truly care about the lives and the souls of other Christians.
A true fellowship and place for Christians to be able to connect with each other and get prayer and support and learn about the Bible and study the word of God for personal spiritual growth and to deepen their relationship with God. This is what is important to me. You do not have to sit in a Church and listen to an hour long sermon in order to be close to God.

CHURCH IN AMERICA
It seems to me Church has lost its backbone.
What do I mean?
Well, to sum it up, I would have to say that Christians in general have lost their backbone, to include preachers. We are currently going through a time of need in our country for Free Americans to stand up and speak out against government hijacking of freedom and liberty in America. Where are the Christian churches in all this? They are nowhere to be found.
Have the churches in America sold out to government? I have heard for several years that our churches have sold out and do not and will not preach or teach against the government. I understand the separation of Church and State, however, there is a problem.
The problem with this is that Churches have gone soft. Most preach tolerance and it has become apparent that government will dictate to churches that they can not preach parts of the Bible that teach against homosexuality without preachers and churches coming under legal scrutiny, charges, and lawsuits. Due to this and the need to stand with Tax Deductions and exemptions, churches have gone soft. So much that even God given Freedom does not matter to the churches anymore.
In my opinion, this is outrageous. I have made calls to several churches and sent emails to them in reference to what is currently going in the country with government trying to pass bills that are jeopardizing our freedoms and liberties in America, and not one church or Christian group has ever emailed me back. Churches are not willing to stick their necks out in order to stand up for God and Country. What does this say about our Chruches? They are weak and if they are not standing with the American people for Freedom and Liberty given to us by God, then does that mean they are standing with the government?

OBAMA AND FREE AMERICA!
What free America? If Obama and his regime have anything to do with it, America would not exist. If you are wondering how in the world anybody could possibly say such things about the president, then there is no need to, I will explain.
Obama passed himself off as a Christian. He was quite obviously lying. I and many others believe Obama not only to be muslim, but to be of the Nation of Islam, which so closely follows in beliefs by what Obama is doing and saying.
Obama has turned even on the black people in this country. In the Hate Crimes bill, there is protection for every sick, twisted, freak on the planet. Examples: Pediphiles (child molesters), people with fettishes who are termed as exhibitionists and like to show their private areas to people in public. It also protects gays, lesbians and transgenders from being called racial slurrs. And there is all kinds of other protected people and situations in this Bill.
However, you can still use the "N" word when talking about black people. You can still racially attack white people by calling them names and you can issue racial slurrs towards any other race of people, but your CHOSEN lifestyle of being "gay, queer" or whatever, can get you in trouble legally. REDICULOUS. I would have figured black people would have noticed this and taken offense to the protection of lifestyle rather than a race, but I guess not. You sure don't here many speaking out about this, all though, there are plenty of them in disagreement with Obama and his regime on many issues.
OBAMACARE promises to be very expensive, as if we, as a country, should not be getting ready to file bankruptcy anyway. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!
Obviously Obama hates America, hates freedom and will do everything in his communist power to take away our freedoms and liberties as a FREE country. Many Americans are fighting this by speaking out and OBAMA and GOONS are staging fake town hall meetings so that would be dictator Obama is not disrespected by those of us who have been termed "Nazi" and "Mobsters".
WHAT ARE WE OBAMA?
We are FREEDOM loving American citizens. YOU OBAMA work for us. WE DO NOT WORK FOR YOU. But you have done well to take our money, break our country, and send us into near bankruptcy and destruction.
YOUR DICTATION OF OUR REPPUBLIC WILL END. SOONER RATHER THAN LATER I HOPE.

I would agree that we need healthcare reform. However, the current Obamacare is just a tactic to overthrow the freedom of the people of America. How is it that liberals can get behind something they are to uphold? Like the constitution. Have any of you Obamans read that ever? Government is not supposed to be big brother. We need less government. Obama promised less/smaller government when he was running. Obviously a lie. He has overthrown the auto industry and has taken over banks.
Cap and Trade will end more jobs and companies in America and will increase taxes on the American People. Obama can not run this country because Freedom will die hard. Obama waged an attack on the American people by telling his Union Hitmen to flood us out at rallies. Obama has now committed criminal acts against the people of this country. Why do I say this? Well, he called out the Union dogs and they are starting physical confrontations with conservatives. In my opinion, Obama is directly responsible for the actions of those who he called to action.
Sorry, the president of the FREE world should carry himself a little better than that. The American people are tired of strong arm scare tactics by politicians. It is okay for Americans to agree with liberals and Obama and protest conservatives; however, when conservatives stand up for their freedoms and refuse to bow down to the liberals, we get attack dogs sent after us.
We want healthcare reform and agree it is needed, but hijacking the Freedom of the American people is wrong. Being able to play "God" and determine who gets treatment and who does not, is wrong. Being able to determine who lives and who dies, is wrong.

Is it misinformation that states in the Bill that you can keep your private coverage through your employer but when you lose it, if you do, then you won't be able to get back on any other private healthcare? I would agree that we need healthcare reform. However, the current Obamacare is just a tactic to overthrow the freedom of the people of America. How is it that liberals can get behind something they are to uphold? Like the constitution. Have any of you Obamans read that ever? Government is not supposed to be big brother. We need less government. Obama promised less/smaller government when he was running. Obviously a lie. He has overthrown the auto industry and has taken over banks.
Cap and Trade will end more jobs and companies in America and will increase taxes on the American People. Obama can not run this country because Freedom will die hard. Obama waged an attack on the American people by telling his Union Hitmen to flood us out at rallies. Obama has now committed criminal acts against the people of this country. Why do I say this? Well, he called out the Union dogs and they are starting physical confrontations with conservatives. In my opinion, Obama is directly responsible for the actions of those who he called to action.
Sorry, the president of the FREE world should carry himself a little better than that. The American people are tired of strong arm scare tactics by politicians. I am not notifying you of "fishy" talk or emails on healthcare. I am giving you my opinion on the matter.
I disagree with government run health care and no I do not believe the government has the right to determine who should live by receiving treatment and who should die from having treatment denied.
America is a free country. Obama and liberals currently running the country are crippling our country and trying to destroy Freedom in America. I never thought I would see someone running our government in my lifetime, who so openly hates America and the freedom we have and share here in this country. I am very disappointed.
People have come out and said that America just was not ready for a black president. I disagree. I don't care what your skin color. I care about your heart and mind and the fact that the President of the United States of America should carry himself with respect of the American citizens and respect for our constitution and rights. Obama and others in government today act as though they hate America and the freedom we have in this country.
The American people are tired of politics as usual. Obama has done nothing to help this country. Taking away or trying to take away the freedoms of the people in America is not the way to help our country.
I have not nor have I ever been paid off by any party to protest anything. I speak my mind as many others. Nancy Pelosi is nuts. All the others in government who are making fun of those of us speaking out are nuts, and they have no right to insult Americans in this way for exercising our right of Freedom of Speech. By calling on others to turn us in and by sending out extreme liberals to attack us, you have shown that you hate our country and that you hate us.
NO scare tactic will shake the true FREE American Patriots and nothing can make us go against what we so firmly believe in. Even the soldiers who have fought and died for the United States, its freedom and the safety of its citizens disagree with what you all are doing in government. They are not here to be able to speak for themselves. They are off fighting your wars. So many of us speak for the soldiers as well as for ourselves.
Thank you for your time and for reading this email. Guess what? I am not an idiot and neither are most of us out here who are against the healthcare plan. We simply want what is right for Freedom, America, and the citizens of the United States. Pretty Simple? Well, Washington D.C. needs to wake up and listen. The majority do not want what you are doing. But instead of listening, you hijack everything and make everything the way you want it. Putting out assaulting commercials on America's people is childish, and proves what I have said in this email.

Obama and his regime have now verbally attacked FREE American citizens. Obama, Pelosi and other government liars have called those of us on the Internet and in the real world who are protesting them and their lies mobsters.
I AM NOT PLANTED LIKE THE GOVERNMENT THINKS. THE REPUBLICANS HAVE NOT PAID ME TO PROTEST OR TO STAND UP AND TELL OBAMA THAT HE IS A LIAR AND THIEF. OBAMA IS COMMITTING TREASON AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. WE WON'T TAKE IT ANYMORE.
Nancy Pelosi: stated that we were all a bunch of crazy, fanatical, swastika wearing, mobsters, placed and planted around the country by the Republican party. No Party owns me. I am FREE and I act as a FREE American Citizen.

FAM Free America March is on the move. Numbers are growing as people are finding out about the movement for the people of America to stand together for freedom in Washington D.C. where we will no longer be able to just be ignored.

II. History of the GroupThe roots of the Nation of Islam can be traced back to the early part of the 20th century with the emergence of black militant groups. For the most part, NOI surfaced as a social movement, "a large organized group of people committed to collective goals and ideals to preserve or change the existing political economic structure and human relationships in a society"3.
The NOI is a specific type of movement because it not only is designed for winning black converts but also focuses on black socioeconomic issues. "A black nationalist movement is an organized effort to create a collective consciousness and racial/cultural pride"4.In this sense the Nation of Islam is as much a movement for change as it is one of religious enlightenment. Movements such as the Nation of Islam arise during periods of social change and the time period of its formation, circa 1930, was a crucially dynamic period in the United States. The aftermath of World War I coupled with the Great Depression combined to create social conditions that provoked discontent among blacks. Following the Great Migration of southern blacks to northern cities such as Chicago, New York and Detroit, blacks experienced a period of prosperity and "expected their status to continue to improve [but experienced the inverse] when their status dropped after the war, and frustration, anxiety and discontent arose"4.
In addition to being huddled in crowded, poor urban areas, blacks had to compete with whites for jobs. These social conditions made black nationalism an attractive alternative for African Americans. So it was under these conditions that "the Nation of Islam began in the black community of Detroit in 1930 during an era of hunger, discontent, anguish, and disillusionment."5Wallace Fard is officially credited with founding the NOI but much of the doctrine and beliefs of the NOI stem from the teachings of Noble Drew Ali and his Moorish Holy Temple of Science." The Nation of Islam evolved from the Moorish Temple of Science Organization founded by Timothy Drew"6.
The basis of Drew's (later known as Noble Drew Ali) teaching held that African Americans were actually of Islamic heritage and therefore should be referred to as "Moors." Drew taught that Islam, not Christianity was the original, and therefore the correct, faith of African Americans." Ali also stated that [the terms] Negro and Black signified death and Colored signified something painted. Therefore the terms Asiatic, Moor or Moorish-American must be used. Ali taught that salvation was found by discovering national orignal and refusing to be called Negro, Black, Colored, Ethiopian, etc."7.Drew also instilled the idea of Moorish superiority over the white race. Drew continued his teachings until his mysterious death in 1929. After Drew's death, his following splintered into numerous fractions. On one side, there is John Given El who believed himself to be the reincarnation of Noble Drew, on the other there is Wallace D. Fard who also believed himself to be the reincarnation of Nobel Drew.
The original followers of Drew took two diverging paths. One group followed John Givens and became the Morish Americans of the Moorish Temple of science based in Chicago, and the other group following Fard became The Nation of Islam. 8Using the foundation laid by Noble Drew, the Nation of Islam was born. In 1930 in Detroit, a door to door salesman, going by the name Wallace Fard, began preaching his remedies for the problems that plagued the black community. His job as a salesman gave him easy access into the homes of blacks throughout the city. While inside the homes he began preaching his doctrine of black separatism, white evil, and Christian manipulation.
He used Blacks' familiarity with the Bible as a spring board to his preaching, gradually easing into Qur'anic text.Fard's three main concepts, which became the foundation for the NOI ideology, were "Allah is God, the white man is the devil and the so called Negroes are the Asiatic Black People, the cream of the planet earth"9. Fard felt that blacks would not achieve freedom, equality,and justice until they not only regained their true religion and language (Islam and Arabic) and but also gained a separate state.Frad preached to his listeners how Christianity was the white man's religion used to enslave and subjugate the asiatic (black) man's mind. To him, the Christian faith would never serve to solve the problems that plagued the black community. In fact,it had often been used as a device to keep black subordinate.
The "Christian religion was and is the master stratagem for keeping the so-called Negroes enslaved... [this] 'slave religion' taught them to love their oppressor and prey for those who persecute them"10. From 1930 to 1934, Fard successfully recruited 8,000 followers into his Lost-Found Nation of Islam. 11One of Fard's First Chief Ministers was a man by the name of Elijah Poole. After Fard's mysterious disappearance in June of 1934, his most dedicated head minister Elijah Muhammad (formally known as Robert Pool) took over the movement. The primary reason for Elijah's devotion to Fard was that he believed Fard was God in person.
In fact, Elijah is entirely responsible for the deification of Fard as well as the perpetuation of Fard's beliefs.12After Fards disappearance, Elijah established a second temple in Chicago which eventually became the main headquarters for the NOI. Elijah was very strict and authoritative in his role as head of the Nation of Islam. This strong hold over the organization even held true while Elijah was in prison serving time for draft evasion during the Second World War. While incarcerated, Elijah was able to run the NOI via giving his orders to his wife Clara and his head ministers. So even in prison, the organization never acted without his direct consent and direction. Under the leadership of Elijah Muhammad the organization took shape into the beliefs and practices the NOI is famous for such as their ideas of black racial superiority, and racial separation. Elijah remained head of the NOI until his death in 1975 when his son Wallace Muhammad took over the ranks. 13
Wallace Muhammad and the Reform EraWallace Muhammad was never a completely "devout" or "blind faith" follower of the Nation of Islam. In fact, in the years of his involvement with the organization he frequently butted heads with his father Elijah over Islamic ideology.Wallace was excommunicated and reinstated frequently (at least four times) 1 for conflicting with Elijah Muhammad "over the philosophy (self help), the theology (Islamic Nationalism), and ideology (black separatism)."14One such reason for an expulsion was a revelation that he and his close friend Malcolm X came to. They concluded that Elijah had not only misrepresented both Fard's doctrines and Islam itself, but that Fard could have not possibly been Allah.
Another incident which caused tension between Wallace and his father was Wallace's investigation and questioning of Elijah's adulterous affairs.Although it may seem odd that one who was repeatedly reprimanded for acting out contrary to the NOI doctrines should take over the organization, it was prophesized by Fard that Wallace would be the eventual successor. Fard said that Elijah's seventh child would be a son and that son would be destined to lead the NOI and because of this vision, Wallace was given leadership. 15Immediately after Elijah Muhammad's death, Wallace began implementing drastic and dramatic changes within the NOI moving it towards traditional Islam. With the reorganizing, denationalizing, decentralizing, and orthodizing, Wallace changed the most powerful black nationalist group into an Orthodox Islamic group.16
He implemented seven main changes which drastically altered the structure and goals of the group.First, he did away with the doctrine of black racial superiority taught by Elijah Muhammad.Secondly, he redefined Fard as a wise man and not God himself.Third, he restored Malcolm X's legacy as a respected and prominent member.He separated business from religious practices.He ended the desire for a separate state.He honored the US Constitution.Lastly, he aligned the NOI doctrine with Orthodox Islamic practices.In addition, he changed the name of the NOI, first to the Bilalian Community, then to the World Community of Al-Islam in the West, to the American Muslim Mission (1980s), and finally to the Muslim Mission (1990s). "Each change was an effort to make the organization and it's members adhere to strict, traditional Islamic principles and to exclude race, nationalism, and racial images of God and phrophets from theory and worship."17 The Muslim Mission now holds orthodox Islamic views and is accepted as part of the traditional Islamic community. 18
During the time Wallace Muhammad implemented his orthodizing changes, NOI followers who strongly believed in the doctrine of black racial superiority and racial separation as taught by Fard and Elijah Muhammad, left the NOI. They felt that "Muhammad ha[d] esentially fallen from the African Nationalist ideological tree. The American Muslim Mission does not represent the ideas of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad or the founding fathers of the race conscious ideology." 19 One such defecter was Louis Farrakhan, the outspoken Black Muslim. To continue the legacy of African Nationalist thought, Minister Louis Farrakhan broke from the group to reestablish the legacy of the NOI. "Farrakhan has picked up the baton from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and continues his legacy as his spiritual son."20
III. Beliefs and Practices of the Nation of IslamThe Nation of Islam deviates considerably from the teachings of orthodox Islam. Their idea of black racial superiority and whites as evil is contradictory to the teachings of racial equality found in Orthodox Islam. Although the title of this group seems to infer that they are part of the Orthodox Islam religion, this is not the case. There are significant differences ranging from interpretation of the Five Pillars to the perception that the members of the NOI have in regards to our diverse culture. The NOI is much more inclusive and politically radical than Orthodox Muslims.
Two of the Black Muslims' doctrines are at the heart of the controversy:their insistence that blacks must separate themselves from the abhorrent and doomed race and their belief that it is the manifest destiny of the Black Nation to inherit the earth. These doctrines are in flagrant contrast to orthodox Islamic ideals of an all-embracing unity of mankind.21
Differences Between the Nation of Islam and the Orthodox Muslim Church:One great difference between members of the Nation of Islam and Orthodox Muslims is their perspective on the Qur'an. Orthodox Muslims believe that it was Allah's last revelation to mankind and that this occurred between the years of 610 and 632 CE. The Nation of Islam teachings on the subject are contradictory. On the one end, they state that they believe in the Qur'an and the writings of all the prophets of God. On the other side, the members also state that they believe that they are the original nation, the writers of the Bible and Qur'an, and the creators of history. 22Another discrepancy is in the belief of the personification of Allah.
The Nation of Islam professes that Allah appeared in the flesh as W.D. Fard. Orthodox Muslims believe that at no time did Allah appear in any physical form.23Al Islam teaches that the Prophet Muhammad was the last of the messengers that Allah has sent to us, and the one for all to follow. The Nation of Islam believes that Elijah Muhammad was also a messenger. He was taught by God himself (W. D. Fard).24Overall, the Orthodox Muslims believe in the equality of all. There is no one superior group over another. Hierachical structures are based on the ability to submit to the will of Allah.
The Nation of Islam is more of a political movement hoping to find a solution for the plight of the African-American.25Followers of the Nation of Islam spiritually believe that:There is only one God whose name is Allah as well as a belief in Allah's prophets and the scriptures they brought to the people.They follow the Holy Qu'ran and believe in the scriptures of all of the prophets of God.They also believe in the truth of the Bible but see that it's truth has been skewed and misinterpreted.They believe in the Judgment, but that the first judgment will take place in the United States.In addition NOI followers see themselves as God's chosen people who can mentally be resurrected.26
Black Muslims are expected to pray five times daily: morning, noon, midafternoon, sundown, and before bed. These prayers must be made facing east (towards Mecca) only after one thoroughly cleanses the body. They are required to attend at least two temple meetings per week. Black Muslims are also forbidden from eating certian foods such as pork and corn bread, not only because they contribute to a "slow death," but that they are unclean or foods that constituted part of a slave diet.27.There are strict moral codes between the interaction of the sexes and how the sexes are to act. Muslim women can not wear makeup or tight and revealing clothes and must not be alone with any man other than their husbands. Interracial sexual relationships are strictly forbidden and anyone who engages in such activities faces expulsion from the organization. Clear and obvious distinctions are made to indicate behavior and social roles appropriate for males and females.
Women learn these rules of conduct during Muslim Girls Training while men learn their roles as members of the Fruit of Islam. 28The teachings proclaim that the black man is the original man, ancestor to the entire human race, and that the white race is the result of an experiment of an evil scientist named Yacub. Approximately six thousand years ago Yacub used a recessive gene in the Black race to create the biological mutated Caucasians. These mutated Blacks were "Bleached of the essence of humanity [and] were without soul." 29.To NOI members, "the white man is a devil by nature, absolutely unredeemable and incapable of caring about or respecting anyone who is not white [and] is the historic, persistent source of harm and injury to black people"30. Because of Yacub's malicious mischief, Whites would rule humanity for an extended period of time until the black race once again gains control.
They believe the coming of Farad is the beginning spark to the black race regaining control.31Members of the Nation of Islam see themselves as "Asiatic," the direct descendants of the black nation of Asia part of the continent of Africa. "The Original Man is the Asiatic Blackman, the Owner, the cream of the planet earth, God of the Universe"32. Within the Asiatic Nation is the "Tribe of Shabazz," those of direct African descent and earth's original people, who were enslaved by whites for hundreds of years. It was Fard and Elijah Muhammad who were sent to find this lost nation and relocate them into an independent state.
This separatism was based, in part, on the idea that "Blacks" were never Americans by nature or race and therefore renounce their citizenship as Americans and denounce their loyalty to the United States.33As a social movement, the Nation of Islam primarily has three main goals:The United Front of Black Men Racial Separation Economic Separation34. The United Front of Black MenThis is the idea of Black unity:to have all Black men in America reunited with his own. To have all Black men join together under the umbrella of the Nation of Islam to achieve their goals together for there is strength in numbers.Racial Separation Quite simply, this idea states that there be complete separation of the Black and White races. "Only with complete racial separation will the perfect harmony of the universe be restored."35 Economic SeparationThe ideal of this goal is to have complete economic withdrawal from the White community because white economic dominance gives them ultimate power over blacks.
The key to black economic separatism and security lay in five steps labeled the "Economic Blueprint:" Recognize the necessity for unity and group activities. Pool your resources, physically as well as financially.Stop wanton criticism of everything that is black-owned and black operated.Keep in mind that jealousy destroys from within.Work hard in a collective manner"36.
IV. Issues/ControversiesMalcolm XMalcolm Little was born on May 19,1925 to Louise and Earl Little of Omaha, Nebraska. Mrs. Little was a mulatto born in Grenada and his father was a Baptist minister and organizer for Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association.Malcolm never finished high school and became accustomed to living in a hustler society. He was nicknamed "Red" because of the color of his hair, and lived up to this title. He was quick-tempered and able to commit acts of violence. On February of 1946, Malcolm was convicted on a robbery charge and sentenced to seven years in prison.37While in prison, Malcolm became a follower of the Nation of Islam.
He was initially introduced to NOI teachings by two incarcerated members of the Detroit Temple and began a correspondence with Elijah Muhammad. They communicated through mail and Malcolm became further and further intrigued by the NOI beliefs. With the support of his sister and brother, he became a member of the Nation of Islam. He discarded his master's surname and changed it to X, a practice done by NOI members that signifies the unknown, true tribal name of their African ancestors. After his parole in 1952, Malcolm X performed organizational tasks for the nation under the guidance of Elijah Muhammad. Almost immediately, Malcolm became the main spokesman for Elijah Muhammad. Because of his charismatic speaking and his mass appeal, he was responsible for dramatically increasing the number of NOI followers during the early 1960s.38Partly due to tensions within the Black Muslim Movement, Malcolm X became critical of his leader, Elijah Muhammad. What sparked this criticism was allegations of Elijah's Muhammad's sexual exploits with many of his secretaries.
What disturbed Malcolm about these accusations was not so much that Elijah Muhammad was capable of doing such immoral acts, but that he was denying and even trying to cover up what he had done instead of "facing what he had done before his followers, as a human weakness or as a fufillment of prophecy -- which Muslims would have understood...or at least accepted."39Due to this conflict, Malcolm allegedy began recieving death threats from loyal NOI supporters.The final straw that compounded the tension between Malcolm and the NOI occurred after he negatively commented on the assassination of John F. Kennedy, saying that the assassination was a case of "the chickens coming home to roost" (the implication being that the President brought the assassination upon himself). Because of this, he was silenced for ninety days from all speaking and official duties.
During that period, he left the Nation of Islam and founded the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity.40In 1964, Malcolm X journeyed on the pilgrimage to Mecca. The hajj forced him to review his ideas on integration and embrace the traditional values of Islam. After the trip, he believed that it was possible for Caucasians to contribute to the struggle. He then adopted the name El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz.On Feburary 21, 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan while addressing supporters. Three members of the Nation of Islam were convicted for murder. It has also been suspected by many of his followers that the government also had something to do with his murder. These accusations have never been confirmed.41
Louis FarrakhanLouis Farrahkan is one of the most controversial figureheads associated with the Nation of Islam. Farrakhan was born Louis Eugene Walcott in Bronx, NY in 1933, but moved to Boston, Mass. with his mother and brother by age four. It was in the city of Boston that he would be introduced to the NOI. At twenty-two, he became interested in the organization while Malcolm X was in Boston establishing Temple No. 11.42Through his dedication to the movement, he eventually became one of the heads of the Boston Temple and remained with the organization until he left in 1977 due to dissatisfaction with the changes implemented by Wallace's leadership. In breaking from the organization he set out to reestablish the legacy of Elijah Muhammad.At first, Farrakhan went along with the changes implemented by Wallace Muhammad. But as more and more changes began debunking Elijah Muhammad's vision, Farrakhan became uneasy.
Wallace was destroying the work and the teachings that Farrakhan believed in. Farrakhan could no longer be a part of an organization that held different beliefs from him. "Something had to give and it did. In 1977 after some thirty months of the Wallace reformation, Farrakhan left Wallace Muhammad's world community of Islam in the West to rebuild Elijah's Lost Found Nation of Islam."43The ideology of the Nation of Islam under Farrakhan is almost indistinguishable from what it was under Elijah Muhammad, however, there are slight differences. One such change is no longer desiring a separate state, instead the NOI opts for just economic separation.
However controversial Farrakhan may be, to contemporary blacks the social and economic message he preaches is very appealing. Through his messages, he has given many urban blacks a sense of hope and blamed their social and economic condition on the system, and the larger racist white society; but Louis Farrakhan is most notably known for outspokenness and leading of the black community and his inflammatory statements about Jews.Million Man MarchOn October 16,1995 approximately a million black men came together for a day of unity, atonement, and reconciliation in Washington D.C.
It was a march to strengthen the black community. This movement was envisioned by the controversial Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan organized the march to help dispel the negative image the public has of black males ( 210K AIFF sound or 210K WAV sound). It was a call for black men to take responsibility for themselves and their families. It also advocated a fight against drugs, violence, and unemployment.One problem some had with the march was not its goal, not its message, but its messenger Louis Farrakhan. Many view Farrakhan as prejudiced and numerous Black churches refused to endorse or support the march. Just days prior to the march, Farrakhan made sweeping anti-Semitic and racial remarks about Jews, Koreans, and Vietnamese being bloodsuckers who take advantage of the black community.44 Commentaries such as these make many nervous and angry.
It had people asking: how can one so filled with hate and prejudice lead a civil rights march that asks for equality and justice? In addition to the racial issues Farrakhan's presence evokes, many women see the march as sexist. Organizers of the march asked women to "stay at home," a request that was a flagrant slap in the face to most black women who have fought for equality and justice along side men.45To many, the march was the beginning. The supporters were challenged to continue this mission and to help make a difference. It has been credited for an increase in voter registration, applicants to adopt black children, a decrease in Black-on-Black crime, and an increased interest in serving the Black community.Nation of Islam vs JewsOne of the most controversial issues regarding the beliefs of the Nation is their feelings towards the Jewish community.
Although the Black Muslims reject the idea that they have a special antipathy for Jews, their actions and statements often prove otherwise.Much of the context behind Black anti-Semitism is rooted in the 1960s when there was a drastic erosion of Black-Jewish relations. 46 Such issues as Jews having control over schools in black communities (because of the large percentage of Jewish teachers) to the feeling that Jews, who were once avid supporters of civil rights, had turned their backs on blacks due to an overall decline in American anti-Semitism. The Jews no longer needed civil rights because they had gained their liberation on the backs of blacks. 47 Add to that the fact that Jews lived, in significant numbers, in the black communities and came to be seen as leeching off of blacks. All of this fueled black anti-Semitic feelings.One of the issues regarding Jews is their racial classification.
If Jews are thought of as Semites, then they are not really 'white' and should be considered Arabs and part of the Black Nation.48 Although some Muslim ministers hold this view, the majority disregard this distinction and classify them as white. Most see "the Jew as a white man because he is accepted as a white man."49Deeper animosity towards Jews stems from the ideas that they are attempting to overpower the black community by undermining them economically. 50 The argument is that Jewish merchants move into black neighborhoods and then open family business in those communities. They then profit off of the community and become extremly wealthy, all the while never employing blacks. "[Blacks] are footing the bill, but there isn't a single black face behind a single counter in the store." 51
By many of the Nation's members, the Jews are accused of attempting to overpower the Black community. The members of the Nation of Islam believe that the Jews keep a tight hold on public opinion through their control of mass communication. They claim that the Jewish communities own much of the television and radio stations and use these methods of communication to further their cause. Black Muslims also resent the presence of the Jews in the Black communities. Oftentimes, a Jewish merchant will open a family business in the lower class community.
This is seen as the Jewish man leeching on the Black community since he will take their money, but not hire them to work or associate with them.52The book titled The Secret Relationship between Blacks and Jews, written by the Historical Research Department of the Nation of Islam, explores its distrust and animosity towards the Jewish Community. Basically, the main idea is that Jews have been directly linked to participating in and perpetuating the slave trade. "Jews have been conclusively linked to the greatest criminal endeavor ever undertaken against an entire race of people -- the Black African Holocaust ."53The book argues that Jews not only dominated the Atlantic slave trade but were also major slave traders and slave owners in the south. In addition, it claims that Jews exploited blacks during and after reconstruction. the book also claims that Jews, being greedy and money hungry, enjoyed reaping the financial benefits that such exploitation provided.
Allegations such as these, for obvious reasons, angered and offended the Jewish community. Critics of the book argue that it is "fictitious, lopsided historical overview...[that] distorts the complex factors which led to the trans-Atlantic slave trade.54 Continuing anti-Semitic attacks and remarks such as these, have created uneasy and tense relationships between members of the NOI and Jews.Sentiment towards the Nation of IslamWhen most American (that is, white Americans) think of the Nation of Islam, the image that strikes them is one of an organization that is racist, anti-white, and anti-American that is now headed by Louis Farrakhan, a "anti-Semite, racist, sexist, homophobe, and looney."55
The image white American has of the Nation of Islam comes not from first hand interaction with its members, but from media portrayals of the NOI and it's leaders such as Louis Farrakhan. Black Nationalism is often interpreted in the popular media as being anti-white "and is uniformly portrayed as being bad for American race relations."56 They see people like Farrakhan and the NOI as damaging: hindering and destroying racial tolerance in the United States.What seems to be the real negative feelings behind white America's sentiment against the NOI is fear: Fear of the NOI's message of being angry and fed up with white America's treatment of the black man. Their fear can also be seen as fear of the unfarmiliarity, not only with the organization but also with the potential power (against whites) that it is capable of yielding. When a young member of the NOI was invited to a college class room57 many white students were not only stunned by him being there but they also "said they had felt scared speechless in his presence...they assumed that [he] hated them because he was a member of the Nation of Islam. "58 Much of their reaction to the young NOI member was limited to the media portrayal of the NOI and it's leader Farrakhan.Farrakhan has received more press coverage than any other African American, with the exception of Jessie Jackson.
The coverage of his statements and beliefs however anti-Semitic and anti-white they may be, have ironically made him more sympathetic to blacks. "The irony is this: the more the media portray Farrakhan as a manace to society, the more sympathetic he seems to African Americans."59 What happens is that the media tends to focus on white reactions to Farrakhan, as well as issues dealing with race relations. Since often time the white reaction to Farrakhan is negative, this causes backs to side with or sympathize with Farrakhan.Farrakhan and the NOI in general, have had a profound impact on the black youth. "No leader has had more of an impact on the Hip-Hop Generation than Louis Farrakhan."60 Few leaders and organizations make themselves accesable to the youth.
"Farrakhan has a unique ability to reach deeply into the souls of black youth." 61 When he speaks he "seems to be able to talk to young blacks in a way that makes them listen even when he puts them down."62In addition, youth are drawn to Farrakhan because like their predecessors, they too face economic hardships and Farrakhan's message of economic empowerment via economic separation is a welcome remedy to their financial problems.Recent RevelationsIn an unprecedented event, Minister Louis Farrakhn met with wallace Muhammad on February 25th, 2000. This meeting marked reconciliation between the two opposing groups. The meeting between the two also implied possible acceptance of the NOI under the umbrella of Mainstream Orthodox Islam.
This possible acceptance comes after Farrakhan's proclamation of "ending the cycle of violence and hatred" in the world and "uplifting fallen humanity regardless of race, color or creed." Whether or not Farrakhan adheres to this new ideology still remains to be seen.

We have been trying to keep this movement from being totally one sided and run as a religious movement, however, I am Christian and most of those who are joining us are also Christian. There will be the tendency to show more of a leaning toward Christian views due to that fact.
It still does not matter, black, white, and all other races in between are Christians as well and we welcome anyone to stand up who loves FREE AMerica and know all who do are not Christians. This movement is for our Freedom.

II. History of the GroupThe roots of the Nation of Islam can be traced back to the early part of the 20th century with the emergence of black militant groups. For the most part, NOI surfaced as a social movement, "a large organized group of people committed to collective goals and ideals to preserve or change the existing political economic structure and human relationships in a society"3.
The NOI is a specific type of movement because it not only is designed for winning black converts but also focuses on black socioeconomic issues. "A black nationalist movement is an organized effort to create a collective consciousness and racial/cultural pride"4.In this sense the Nation of Islam is as much a movement for change as it is one of religious enlightenment. Movements such as the Nation of Islam arise during periods of social change and the time period of its formation, circa 1930, was a crucially dynamic period in the United States. The aftermath of World War I coupled with the Great Depression combined to create social conditions that provoked discontent among blacks. Following the Great Migration of southern blacks to northern cities such as Chicago, New York and Detroit, blacks experienced a period of prosperity and "expected their status to continue to improve [but experienced the inverse] when their status dropped after the war, and frustration, anxiety and discontent arose"4.
In addition to being huddled in crowded, poor urban areas, blacks had to compete with whites for jobs. These social conditions made black nationalism an attractive alternative for African Americans. So it was under these conditions that "the Nation of Islam began in the black community of Detroit in 1930 during an era of hunger, discontent, anguish, and disillusionment."5Wallace Fard is officially credited with founding the NOI but much of the doctrine and beliefs of the NOI stem from the teachings of Noble Drew Ali and his Moorish Holy Temple of Science." The Nation of Islam evolved from the Moorish Temple of Science Organization founded by Timothy Drew"6.
The basis of Drew's (later known as Noble Drew Ali) teaching held that African Americans were actually of Islamic heritage and therefore should be referred to as "Moors." Drew taught that Islam, not Christianity was the original, and therefore the correct, faith of African Americans." Ali also stated that [the terms] Negro and Black signified death and Colored signified something painted. Therefore the terms Asiatic, Moor or Moorish-American must be used. Ali taught that salvation was found by discovering national orignal and refusing to be called Negro, Black, Colored, Ethiopian, etc."7.Drew also instilled the idea of Moorish superiority over the white race. Drew continued his teachings until his mysterious death in 1929. After Drew's death, his following splintered into numerous fractions. On one side, there is John Given El who believed himself to be the reincarnation of Noble Drew, on the other there is Wallace D. Fard who also believed himself to be the reincarnation of Nobel Drew.
The original followers of Drew took two diverging paths. One group followed John Givens and became the Morish Americans of the Moorish Temple of science based in Chicago, and the other group following Fard became The Nation of Islam. 8Using the foundation laid by Noble Drew, the Nation of Islam was born. In 1930 in Detroit, a door to door salesman, going by the name Wallace Fard, began preaching his remedies for the problems that plagued the black community. His job as a salesman gave him easy access into the homes of blacks throughout the city. While inside the homes he began preaching his doctrine of black separatism, white evil, and Christian manipulation.
He used Blacks' familiarity with the Bible as a spring board to his preaching, gradually easing into Qur'anic text.Fard's three main concepts, which became the foundation for the NOI ideology, were "Allah is God, the white man is the devil and the so called Negroes are the Asiatic Black People, the cream of the planet earth"9. Fard felt that blacks would not achieve freedom, equality,and justice until they not only regained their true religion and language (Islam and Arabic) and but also gained a separate state.Frad preached to his listeners how Christianity was the white man's religion used to enslave and subjugate the asiatic (black) man's mind. To him, the Christian faith would never serve to solve the problems that plagued the black community. In fact,it had often been used as a device to keep black subordinate.
The "Christian religion was and is the master stratagem for keeping the so-called Negroes enslaved... [this] 'slave religion' taught them to love their oppressor and prey for those who persecute them"10. From 1930 to 1934, Fard successfully recruited 8,000 followers into his Lost-Found Nation of Islam. 11One of Fard's First Chief Ministers was a man by the name of Elijah Poole. After Fard's mysterious disappearance in June of 1934, his most dedicated head minister Elijah Muhammad (formally known as Robert Pool) took over the movement. The primary reason for Elijah's devotion to Fard was that he believed Fard was God in person.
In fact, Elijah is entirely responsible for the deification of Fard as well as the perpetuation of Fard's beliefs.12After Fards disappearance, Elijah established a second temple in Chicago which eventually became the main headquarters for the NOI. Elijah was very strict and authoritative in his role as head of the Nation of Islam. This strong hold over the organization even held true while Elijah was in prison serving time for draft evasion during the Second World War. While incarcerated, Elijah was able to run the NOI via giving his orders to his wife Clara and his head ministers. So even in prison, the organization never acted without his direct consent and direction. Under the leadership of Elijah Muhammad the organization took shape into the beliefs and practices the NOI is famous for such as their ideas of black racial superiority, and racial separation. Elijah remained head of the NOI until his death in 1975 when his son Wallace Muhammad took over the ranks. 13
Wallace Muhammad and the Reform EraWallace Muhammad was never a completely "devout" or "blind faith" follower of the Nation of Islam. In fact, in the years of his involvement with the organization he frequently butted heads with his father Elijah over Islamic ideology.Wallace was excommunicated and reinstated frequently (at least four times) 1 for conflicting with Elijah Muhammad "over the philosophy (self help), the theology (Islamic Nationalism), and ideology (black separatism)."14One such reason for an expulsion was a revelation that he and his close friend Malcolm X came to. They concluded that Elijah had not only misrepresented both Fard's doctrines and Islam itself, but that Fard could have not possibly been Allah.
Another incident which caused tension between Wallace and his father was Wallace's investigation and questioning of Elijah's adulterous affairs.Although it may seem odd that one who was repeatedly reprimanded for acting out contrary to the NOI doctrines should take over the organization, it was prophesized by Fard that Wallace would be the eventual successor. Fard said that Elijah's seventh child would be a son and that son would be destined to lead the NOI and because of this vision, Wallace was given leadership. 15Immediately after Elijah Muhammad's death, Wallace began implementing drastic and dramatic changes within the NOI moving it towards traditional Islam. With the reorganizing, denationalizing, decentralizing, and orthodizing, Wallace changed the most powerful black nationalist group into an Orthodox Islamic group.16
He implemented seven main changes which drastically altered the structure and goals of the group.First, he did away with the doctrine of black racial superiority taught by Elijah Muhammad.Secondly, he redefined Fard as a wise man and not God himself.Third, he restored Malcolm X's legacy as a respected and prominent member.He separated business from religious practices.He ended the desire for a separate state.He honored the US Constitution.Lastly, he aligned the NOI doctrine with Orthodox Islamic practices.In addition, he changed the name of the NOI, first to the Bilalian Community, then to the World Community of Al-Islam in the West, to the American Muslim Mission (1980s), and finally to the Muslim Mission (1990s). "Each change was an effort to make the organization and it's members adhere to strict, traditional Islamic principles and to exclude race, nationalism, and racial images of God and phrophets from theory and worship."17 The Muslim Mission now holds orthodox Islamic views and is accepted as part of the traditional Islamic community. 18
During the time Wallace Muhammad implemented his orthodizing changes, NOI followers who strongly believed in the doctrine of black racial superiority and racial separation as taught by Fard and Elijah Muhammad, left the NOI. They felt that "Muhammad ha[d] esentially fallen from the African Nationalist ideological tree. The American Muslim Mission does not represent the ideas of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad or the founding fathers of the race conscious ideology." 19 One such defecter was Louis Farrakhan, the outspoken Black Muslim. To continue the legacy of African Nationalist thought, Minister Louis Farrakhan broke from the group to reestablish the legacy of the NOI. "Farrakhan has picked up the baton from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and continues his legacy as his spiritual son."20
III. Beliefs and Practices of the Nation of IslamThe Nation of Islam deviates considerably from the teachings of orthodox Islam. Their idea of black racial superiority and whites as evil is contradictory to the teachings of racial equality found in Orthodox Islam. Although the title of this group seems to infer that they are part of the Orthodox Islam religion, this is not the case. There are significant differences ranging from interpretation of the Five Pillars to the perception that the members of the NOI have in regards to our diverse culture. The NOI is much more inclusive and politically radical than Orthodox Muslims.
Two of the Black Muslims' doctrines are at the heart of the controversy:their insistence that blacks must separate themselves from the abhorrent and doomed race and their belief that it is the manifest destiny of the Black Nation to inherit the earth. These doctrines are in flagrant contrast to orthodox Islamic ideals of an all-embracing unity of mankind.21
Differences Between the Nation of Islam and the Orthodox Muslim Church:One great difference between members of the Nation of Islam and Orthodox Muslims is their perspective on the Qur'an. Orthodox Muslims believe that it was Allah's last revelation to mankind and that this occurred between the years of 610 and 632 CE. The Nation of Islam teachings on the subject are contradictory. On the one end, they state that they believe in the Qur'an and the writings of all the prophets of God. On the other side, the members also state that they believe that they are the original nation, the writers of the Bible and Qur'an, and the creators of history. 22Another discrepancy is in the belief of the personification of Allah.
The Nation of Islam professes that Allah appeared in the flesh as W.D. Fard. Orthodox Muslims believe that at no time did Allah appear in any physical form.23Al Islam teaches that the Prophet Muhammad was the last of the messengers that Allah has sent to us, and the one for all to follow. The Nation of Islam believes that Elijah Muhammad was also a messenger. He was taught by God himself (W. D. Fard).24Overall, the Orthodox Muslims believe in the equality of all. There is no one superior group over another. Hierachical structures are based on the ability to submit to the will of Allah.
The Nation of Islam is more of a political movement hoping to find a solution for the plight of the African-American.25Followers of the Nation of Islam spiritually believe that:There is only one God whose name is Allah as well as a belief in Allah's prophets and the scriptures they brought to the people.They follow the Holy Qu'ran and believe in the scriptures of all of the prophets of God.They also believe in the truth of the Bible but see that it's truth has been skewed and misinterpreted.They believe in the Judgment, but that the first judgment will take place in the United States.In addition NOI followers see themselves as God's chosen people who can mentally be resurrected.26
Black Muslims are expected to pray five times daily: morning, noon, midafternoon, sundown, and before bed. These prayers must be made facing east (towards Mecca) only after one thoroughly cleanses the body. They are required to attend at least two temple meetings per week. Black Muslims are also forbidden from eating certian foods such as pork and corn bread, not only because they contribute to a "slow death," but that they are unclean or foods that constituted part of a slave diet.27.There are strict moral codes between the interaction of the sexes and how the sexes are to act. Muslim women can not wear makeup or tight and revealing clothes and must not be alone with any man other than their husbands. Interracial sexual relationships are strictly forbidden and anyone who engages in such activities faces expulsion from the organization. Clear and obvious distinctions are made to indicate behavior and social roles appropriate for males and females.
Women learn these rules of conduct during Muslim Girls Training while men learn their roles as members of the Fruit of Islam. 28The teachings proclaim that the black man is the original man, ancestor to the entire human race, and that the white race is the result of an experiment of an evil scientist named Yacub. Approximately six thousand years ago Yacub used a recessive gene in the Black race to create the biological mutated Caucasians. These mutated Blacks were "Bleached of the essence of humanity [and] were without soul." 29.To NOI members, "the white man is a devil by nature, absolutely unredeemable and incapable of caring about or respecting anyone who is not white [and] is the historic, persistent source of harm and injury to black people"30. Because of Yacub's malicious mischief, Whites would rule humanity for an extended period of time until the black race once again gains control.
They believe the coming of Farad is the beginning spark to the black race regaining control.31Members of the Nation of Islam see themselves as "Asiatic," the direct descendants of the black nation of Asia part of the continent of Africa. "The Original Man is the Asiatic Blackman, the Owner, the cream of the planet earth, God of the Universe"32. Within the Asiatic Nation is the "Tribe of Shabazz," those of direct African descent and earth's original people, who were enslaved by whites for hundreds of years. It was Fard and Elijah Muhammad who were sent to find this lost nation and relocate them into an independent state.
This separatism was based, in part, on the idea that "Blacks" were never Americans by nature or race and therefore renounce their citizenship as Americans and denounce their loyalty to the United States.33As a social movement, the Nation of Islam primarily has three main goals:The United Front of Black Men Racial Separation Economic Separation34. The United Front of Black MenThis is the idea of Black unity:to have all Black men in America reunited with his own. To have all Black men join together under the umbrella of the Nation of Islam to achieve their goals together for there is strength in numbers.Racial Separation Quite simply, this idea states that there be complete separation of the Black and White races. "Only with complete racial separation will the perfect harmony of the universe be restored."35 Economic SeparationThe ideal of this goal is to have complete economic withdrawal from the White community because white economic dominance gives them ultimate power over blacks.
The key to black economic separatism and security lay in five steps labeled the "Economic Blueprint:" Recognize the necessity for unity and group activities. Pool your resources, physically as well as financially.Stop wanton criticism of everything that is black-owned and black operated.Keep in mind that jealousy destroys from within.Work hard in a collective manner"36.
IV. Issues/ControversiesMalcolm XMalcolm Little was born on May 19,1925 to Louise and Earl Little of Omaha, Nebraska. Mrs. Little was a mulatto born in Grenada and his father was a Baptist minister and organizer for Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association.Malcolm never finished high school and became accustomed to living in a hustler society. He was nicknamed "Red" because of the color of his hair, and lived up to this title. He was quick-tempered and able to commit acts of violence. On February of 1946, Malcolm was convicted on a robbery charge and sentenced to seven years in prison.37While in prison, Malcolm became a follower of the Nation of Islam.
He was initially introduced to NOI teachings by two incarcerated members of the Detroit Temple and began a correspondence with Elijah Muhammad. They communicated through mail and Malcolm became further and further intrigued by the NOI beliefs. With the support of his sister and brother, he became a member of the Nation of Islam. He discarded his master's surname and changed it to X, a practice done by NOI members that signifies the unknown, true tribal name of their African ancestors. After his parole in 1952, Malcolm X performed organizational tasks for the nation under the guidance of Elijah Muhammad. Almost immediately, Malcolm became the main spokesman for Elijah Muhammad. Because of his charismatic speaking and his mass appeal, he was responsible for dramatically increasing the number of NOI followers during the early 1960s.38Partly due to tensions within the Black Muslim Movement, Malcolm X became critical of his leader, Elijah Muhammad. What sparked this criticism was allegations of Elijah's Muhammad's sexual exploits with many of his secretaries.
What disturbed Malcolm about these accusations was not so much that Elijah Muhammad was capable of doing such immoral acts, but that he was denying and even trying to cover up what he had done instead of "facing what he had done before his followers, as a human weakness or as a fufillment of prophecy -- which Muslims would have understood...or at least accepted."39Due to this conflict, Malcolm allegedy began recieving death threats from loyal NOI supporters.The final straw that compounded the tension between Malcolm and the NOI occurred after he negatively commented on the assassination of John F. Kennedy, saying that the assassination was a case of "the chickens coming home to roost" (the implication being that the President brought the assassination upon himself). Because of this, he was silenced for ninety days from all speaking and official duties.
During that period, he left the Nation of Islam and founded the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity.40In 1964, Malcolm X journeyed on the pilgrimage to Mecca. The hajj forced him to review his ideas on integration and embrace the traditional values of Islam. After the trip, he believed that it was possible for Caucasians to contribute to the struggle. He then adopted the name El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz.On Feburary 21, 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan while addressing supporters. Three members of the Nation of Islam were convicted for murder. It has also been suspected by many of his followers that the government also had something to do with his murder. These accusations have never been confirmed.41
Louis FarrakhanLouis Farrahkan is one of the most controversial figureheads associated with the Nation of Islam. Farrakhan was born Louis Eugene Walcott in Bronx, NY in 1933, but moved to Boston, Mass. with his mother and brother by age four. It was in the city of Boston that he would be introduced to the NOI. At twenty-two, he became interested in the organization while Malcolm X was in Boston establishing Temple No. 11.42Through his dedication to the movement, he eventually became one of the heads of the Boston Temple and remained with the organization until he left in 1977 due to dissatisfaction with the changes implemented by Wallace's leadership. In breaking from the organization he set out to reestablish the legacy of Elijah Muhammad.At first, Farrakhan went along with the changes implemented by Wallace Muhammad. But as more and more changes began debunking Elijah Muhammad's vision, Farrakhan became uneasy.
Wallace was destroying the work and the teachings that Farrakhan believed in. Farrakhan could no longer be a part of an organization that held different beliefs from him. "Something had to give and it did. In 1977 after some thirty months of the Wallace reformation, Farrakhan left Wallace Muhammad's world community of Islam in the West to rebuild Elijah's Lost Found Nation of Islam."43The ideology of the Nation of Islam under Farrakhan is almost indistinguishable from what it was under Elijah Muhammad, however, there are slight differences. One such change is no longer desiring a separate state, instead the NOI opts for just economic separation.
However controversial Farrakhan may be, to contemporary blacks the social and economic message he preaches is very appealing. Through his messages, he has given many urban blacks a sense of hope and blamed their social and economic condition on the system, and the larger racist white society; but Louis Farrakhan is most notably known for outspokenness and leading of the black community and his inflammatory statements about Jews.Million Man MarchOn October 16,1995 approximately a million black men came together for a day of unity, atonement, and reconciliation in Washington D.C.
It was a march to strengthen the black community. This movement was envisioned by the controversial Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan organized the march to help dispel the negative image the public has of black males ( 210K AIFF sound or 210K WAV sound). It was a call for black men to take responsibility for themselves and their families. It also advocated a fight against drugs, violence, and unemployment.One problem some had with the march was not its goal, not its message, but its messenger Louis Farrakhan. Many view Farrakhan as prejudiced and numerous Black churches refused to endorse or support the march. Just days prior to the march, Farrakhan made sweeping anti-Semitic and racial remarks about Jews, Koreans, and Vietnamese being bloodsuckers who take advantage of the black community.44 Commentaries such as these make many nervous and angry.
It had people asking: how can one so filled with hate and prejudice lead a civil rights march that asks for equality and justice? In addition to the racial issues Farrakhan's presence evokes, many women see the march as sexist. Organizers of the march asked women to "stay at home," a request that was a flagrant slap in the face to most black women who have fought for equality and justice along side men.45To many, the march was the beginning. The supporters were challenged to continue this mission and to help make a difference. It has been credited for an increase in voter registration, applicants to adopt black children, a decrease in Black-on-Black crime, and an increased interest in serving the Black community.Nation of Islam vs JewsOne of the most controversial issues regarding the beliefs of the Nation is their feelings towards the Jewish community.
Although the Black Muslims reject the idea that they have a special antipathy for Jews, their actions and statements often prove otherwise.Much of the context behind Black anti-Semitism is rooted in the 1960s when there was a drastic erosion of Black-Jewish relations. 46 Such issues as Jews having control over schools in black communities (because of the large percentage of Jewish teachers) to the feeling that Jews, who were once avid supporters of civil rights, had turned their backs on blacks due to an overall decline in American anti-Semitism. The Jews no longer needed civil rights because they had gained their liberation on the backs of blacks. 47 Add to that the fact that Jews lived, in significant numbers, in the black communities and came to be seen as leeching off of blacks. All of this fueled black anti-Semitic feelings.One of the issues regarding Jews is their racial classification.
If Jews are thought of as Semites, then they are not really 'white' and should be considered Arabs and part of the Black Nation.48 Although some Muslim ministers hold this view, the majority disregard this distinction and classify them as white. Most see "the Jew as a white man because he is accepted as a white man."49Deeper animosity towards Jews stems from the ideas that they are attempting to overpower the black community by undermining them economically. 50 The argument is that Jewish merchants move into black neighborhoods and then open family business in those communities. They then profit off of the community and become extremly wealthy, all the while never employing blacks. "[Blacks] are footing the bill, but there isn't a single black face behind a single counter in the store." 51
By many of the Nation's members, the Jews are accused of attempting to overpower the Black community. The members of the Nation of Islam believe that the Jews keep a tight hold on public opinion through their control of mass communication. They claim that the Jewish communities own much of the television and radio stations and use these methods of communication to further their cause. Black Muslims also resent the presence of the Jews in the Black communities. Oftentimes, a Jewish merchant will open a family business in the lower class community.
This is seen as the Jewish man leeching on the Black community since he will take their money, but not hire them to work or associate with them.52The book titled The Secret Relationship between Blacks and Jews, written by the Historical Research Department of the Nation of Islam, explores its distrust and animosity towards the Jewish Community. Basically, the main idea is that Jews have been directly linked to participating in and perpetuating the slave trade. "Jews have been conclusively linked to the greatest criminal endeavor ever undertaken against an entire race of people -- the Black African Holocaust ."53The book argues that Jews not only dominated the Atlantic slave trade but were also major slave traders and slave owners in the south. In addition, it claims that Jews exploited blacks during and after reconstruction. the book also claims that Jews, being greedy and money hungry, enjoyed reaping the financial benefits that such exploitation provided.
Allegations such as these, for obvious reasons, angered and offended the Jewish community. Critics of the book argue that it is "fictitious, lopsided historical overview...[that] distorts the complex factors which led to the trans-Atlantic slave trade.54 Continuing anti-Semitic attacks and remarks such as these, have created uneasy and tense relationships between members of the NOI and Jews.Sentiment towards the Nation of IslamWhen most American (that is, white Americans) think of the Nation of Islam, the image that strikes them is one of an organization that is racist, anti-white, and anti-American that is now headed by Louis Farrakhan, a "anti-Semite, racist, sexist, homophobe, and looney."55
The image white American has of the Nation of Islam comes not from first hand interaction with its members, but from media portrayals of the NOI and it's leaders such as Louis Farrakhan. Black Nationalism is often interpreted in the popular media as being anti-white "and is uniformly portrayed as being bad for American race relations."56 They see people like Farrakhan and the NOI as damaging: hindering and destroying racial tolerance in the United States.What seems to be the real negative feelings behind white America's sentiment against the NOI is fear: Fear of the NOI's message of being angry and fed up with white America's treatment of the black man. Their fear can also be seen as fear of the unfarmiliarity, not only with the organization but also with the potential power (against whites) that it is capable of yielding. When a young member of the NOI was invited to a college class room57 many white students were not only stunned by him being there but they also "said they had felt scared speechless in his presence...they assumed that [he] hated them because he was a member of the Nation of Islam. "58 Much of their reaction to the young NOI member was limited to the media portrayal of the NOI and it's leader Farrakhan.Farrakhan has received more press coverage than any other African American, with the exception of Jessie Jackson.
The coverage of his statements and beliefs however anti-Semitic and anti-white they may be, have ironically made him more sympathetic to blacks. "The irony is this: the more the media portray Farrakhan as a manace to society, the more sympathetic he seems to African Americans."59 What happens is that the media tends to focus on white reactions to Farrakhan, as well as issues dealing with race relations. Since often time the white reaction to Farrakhan is negative, this causes backs to side with or sympathize with Farrakhan.Farrakhan and the NOI in general, have had a profound impact on the black youth. "No leader has had more of an impact on the Hip-Hop Generation than Louis Farrakhan."60 Few leaders and organizations make themselves accesable to the youth.
"Farrakhan has a unique ability to reach deeply into the souls of black youth." 61 When he speaks he "seems to be able to talk to young blacks in a way that makes them listen even when he puts them down."62In addition, youth are drawn to Farrakhan because like their predecessors, they too face economic hardships and Farrakhan's message of economic empowerment via economic separation is a welcome remedy to their financial problems.Recent RevelationsIn an unprecedented event, Minister Louis Farrakhn met with wallace Muhammad on February 25th, 2000. This meeting marked reconciliation between the two opposing groups. The meeting between the two also implied possible acceptance of the NOI under the umbrella of Mainstream Orthodox Islam.
This possible acceptance comes after Farrakhan's proclamation of "ending the cycle of violence and hatred" in the world and "uplifting fallen humanity regardless of race, color or creed." Whether or not Farrakhan adheres to this new ideology still remains to be seen.
